Eddie Murphy To Be Inducted Into The NAACP Image Awards Hall Of Fame

Eddie Murphy has won several awards to go with his standing as one of the best actors of his generation. These include two NAACP Image Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Legendary actor and comedian, Eddie Murphy, is about to get another feather in his cap. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) announced recently that it will induct the veteran movie icon into the prestigious NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame at this year’s NAACP Image Awards.

The Hall of Fame recognition is given to ‘an individual who is a pioneer in his or her respective field and whose influence will shape the profession for generations to come.’ With this award, Eddie Murphy joins the distinguished company of Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Ray Charles, Sidney Poitier, and other influential black people to have won the award.

“We are honored to celebrate one of the most influential comedic geniuses in the entertainment industry and an individual who has inspired a generation of Black talent,” Derrick Johnson, the President and CEO of the NAACP said. “To this day, Eddie Murphy’s work continues to bring joy and laughter to individuals around the world, and he is an amazing example of Black excellence, creativity, and artistry.”

Eddie Murphy is renowned in Hollywood. He started as a standup comedian before switching to mainstream acting. Here, he made his name in the ‘80s with his versatile displays and range in blockbuster movies such as Beverly Hills Cop series (1984-present), The Nutty Professor (1996), Dr. Dolittle (1998), and so on. Earlier this month, Coming 2 America (2021), the highly anticipated sequel of Coming to America (1988), arguably Eddie Murphy’s most popular movie, was released with Murphy reprising his role.

This year’s event is the 52nd edition of the annual NAACP Image Awards and will take place on March 27th. Alicia Keys, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Obama, and Eddie Murphy’s long-time friend and associate, Arsenio Hall, who will present the Award to Murphy, are among the star-studded list of presenters for the LIVE show. Singer Jazmine Sullivan and Grammy winner, Maxwell, are also billed to perform at the event. You can watch it live on BET and simulcast across ViacomCBS Networks including CBS, BET Her, VH1, MTV, MTV2, and LOGO.
