The story was derived from a concept pitched by founder of The Shade Room and Sundance fellow, Angelica Nwandu. JuJu will also be the directorial debut for Thembi Banks, a Sundance Alum who has served as director on Rae’s HBO series, Insecure.
Also joining the team will be Rae’s longtime partner, Denise Davis along with Sara Rastogi, SVP of development for HooRae Productions, who will be overseeing the project. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production, Erik Baiers will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.
With names like these on the production, its practically guaranteed that Juju will scare the crap out of you and make you laugh at the same time. As of today, very few details have been announced — such as when filming beings and who will be on the cast. But for now, the roommates, Insecure fans and Power fans all have something to look forward to in 2021.
“I’m dreaming out loud. This team is unbelievable,” Anthony shared in an Instagram post revealing the good news. Stay tuned to see all this Black Girl Magic come to life on the big screen.
