Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods” Named Best Film Of 2020

Da 5 Bloods has won the National Board of Review Award for Best Film released in 2020. The Netflix film beat many other great films such as First CowSound of Metal, and NomadlandDa 5 Bloods joins an exclusive list of the most highly rated movies ever produced.

This feat marks the culmination of several months of generally positive reviews about the film’s carefully crafted storyline and superb production and directing. This is reflected in the film also scooping the Best Ensemble Cast award. It also fetched Lee the Best Director award. Spike Lee is the second black director to win the award. Following Barry Jenkins’s footsteps who won it in 2016.

Starring the late Chadwick Boseman, Da 5 Bloods follows the story of four black Vietnam veterans. First, as they try to find and recover the gold, they buried during the Vietnam War. Then later, as they attempt to smuggle the gold out of the country after they found it. Boseman also got a posthumous NBR Icon Award.

The NBR awards are highly revered. Nearly all winners of the award have gone on to receive an Academy Awards nomination for best picture. It will not come as a surprise if Da 5 Bloods goes all the way at the Oscars.
